Terry  Sejnowski (BS ’68), Larry Abbott, and Haim Sompolinsky Awarded 2024 Brain Prize

A huge shoutout to our alumnus Terry Sejnowski (BS ’68) who, along with fellow physicists Larry Abbot and Haim Sompolinsky, shared the 2024 The Brain Prize, the world’s largest brain research prize, for having “made pioneering contributions to the field of computational and theoretical neuroscience and … seminal contributions to our understanding of the principles that govern the brain’s structure, dynamics and the emergence of cognition and behaviour.”

Terry, who serves as the Francis Crick Professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, where he directs the Computational Neurobiology Laboratory, is one of only three living people to have been elected to all four of the national academies — the National Academy of Medicine (2008), the National Academy of Sciences (2010), the National Academy of Engineering (2011), and the National Academy of Inventors (2017).

We also are very excited to report that Terry, who is part of our Physics Strategic Advisory Group, will be back on campus to join us for our first-ever Dept. of Physics reunion taking place during Case Western Reserve University homecoming week, November 14-166, 2024. All are welcome!
